Once we had decided to take the first step in pursuing the horse business, we scheduled a family business trip to Waco, TX for an introductory farm conference at Arabians LTD., Inc. We first attempted to make the trip in October 1999, driving down from Colorado through New Mexico to Texas. The stars must not have been aligned correctly or such, as our first attempt ended in Raton, NM our first night of travel.
We had an unfortunate car and bear encounter, and ended up staying an extra day in Raton, trying to find a replacement for the totaled Mazda MPV we had been driving. The people in the community made what was a nightmare experience almost “bearable” to pardon the pun. I ended up at the ER, and got some fantastic neck x-rays out of the deal, and the people were so helpful in finding us a hotel room and taking us there, at 11pm. Needless to say, the people at Arabians LTD thought it was one of the best yarns ever to get out of attending a conference.
We did make the November conference, and again Destiny seemed to take control. Amidst all the Nationally titled, glorious stallions, I picked out the young Pimlico RCA as my top choice for a sire. He epitomizes the type of Arabian I have been looking for, leggy, correct, athletic and extremely beautiful. Plus his personality outshines all his other attributes. Later that first afternoon of the farm conference, we had a few minutes to walk down the drive to the mare barn, and passed by a large mare pasture. As we walked, a grey mare came across the pasture to greet us, and I noticed the name on her id collar: Meennah. As we soon found out, this breathtaking mare was 1 of 2 mares bred to Pimlico for a 2000 foal. She has gone from a beautiful mare in a pasture to one of our Dream-Makers, as we leased her already bred. She foaled the first Pimlico RCA foal on May 1, 2000, our foundation mare, Pimlicos GhaiLan.
