Our first reality check as breeders came on May 1st, 2000. We got the call that morning from Shawn, telling us Meennah had foaled out a filly in the storm the night before. Our first foray into the business, and we had a filly. I met her 4 days later, after a 24 hour drive from Northern Colorado to San Antonio, and after a few hours we drove up to Waco to meet this new filly. I dont think any of us were prepared for the effect this young foal would have on our lives that day, and in the future.
She took center stage from the start, acting the princess from the time she hit the ground. She threw her little striped tail (a trademark of The Minstril, her maternal grandsire and paternal great-grandsire) up over her back and went on, taking charge of whatever area she was in. I was captivated by her, and knew we had struck gold with the first try. I was lucky enough to be able to spend that first summer with her, imprinting and just spending time with her, letting her get to know me. We named her Pimlicos GhaiLan, which means Pimlicos Wind of the Desert, and the more time I spent with her, the more special I knew she was, but I did not fully realize the effect she would have on others, strangers.
I had a chance to spend a weekend in November of 2000 at Arabians LTD, where GhaiLan was in kinder-garden for show horses. She was learning how to stand up, and be a show horse, and be handled by different people, and trying out the treadmill for the first time. She was so small that she could barely see over the gate on the treadmill, but she would jump on and go to work just like the bigger youngsters. I happened to be on the farm that weekend while there was a non-horse related conference going on, and happened upon a scene that moves me to this day.
I was with Shawn, and we went down to see Little Pimy as they called her, and there was a woman feeding carrots to one of the stallions. We stopped and talked with her, and Shawn mentioned we were going to see a foal, and the woman was very excited at the notion. We walked into GhaiLans stall, and the woman, who professed at never having touched such a young horse before, came in with us, enthralled by the filly. And GhaiLan came right up to her, sniffed her carefully, and then laid her head on the womans shoulder, as if to say it was ok to touch her and love her. I was surprised at this, but when I saw the tears of joy in the womans eyes, I realized the effect this filly was having on her. I was privileged to watch a person realize what they really wanted out of life, and saw how deeply touched she was by GhaiLans simple action. It was then I realized this filly was meant to be shared with the world, and would never belong to just us, but would go on to affect each person she met in new and exciting ways.

Her name means Joy of Magidaa, and with the power of the famed *Magidaa line, combined with Thee Desperado, we have high hopes for this young mare as she matures and becomes another foundation mare for All Souls Arabians.
